I have a working theory that any time a parent pushes a
view, habit or stance on a child then that parent is guilty of abuse.
Now the theory is bullshit, OBVIOUSLY, and I try not to point that
loaded shotgun at others without holding up a mirror.

And Christians? Sorry, but you are pushing word-drugs onto
impressionable minds. Who wouldn’t follow the teaching of some old naked guy in
the clouds who knows what you are thinking and doesn’t give Christmas presents
if you touch yourself (I assume I am paraphrasing the bible). I don’t believe
that being involved in a religion is wrong, I simply don’t believe in
absolutes. Throw out some ideas and let your kid grow and evolve and then let
THEMSELVES decide if those ideas of yours are really just batshit insane. But
hey, Pascal’s Wager is a thing!
And then I read about a children’s paleo cookbook. I
can’t even begin to explain how outraged I am about this. Well I can and it
isn’t much but if I was capable of feeling something I would be totally
outraged.
I think of myself as the Gandhi of parenting. Passive, yes.
Ambivalent? Probably! However, if my children come up with an idea, and at best
one is likely going to be smoking weed and painting houses as a career choice, it
is because they have nurtured it themselves from the little crumbs I have left
strewn around the place.
Just like Gandhi!
